Arrival#
Last week I went to Twenty One Pilots with Megan. It was such an amazing time and I have been wanting to see them for 10 years
Dinner#
I am glad I got to share this experience with Megan having someone to spend that time with made it that much more worth it. We started off the evening by going to dinner with my some wonderful friends at Hot Pot!
It was such a fun evening, we spent some time poking around Westfield Mall, went to the American Doll store and found some other places we wanted to explore the next time we went back. After having dinner with my co-workers, we went back to the hotel to relax.
The Next Morning#
Tuesday morning, I woke up early and we decided to go get breakfast, after some back and forth, we decided on Mañana coffee in Venice Beach. It was absolutely amazing and the cacti gave off such a great vibe, it was a lot of fun reading all the different names of the cacti when you looked closely.
We got the avocado toast and lemon pepper bagel with homemade cream cheese
A little salty on top, but very delicious and I actually quite enjoyed it. After finishing breakfast, we went back to the hotel and relaxed for a just few minutes before heading back out on the town.
The Getty#
Next on our list was the Getty. The tram ride up to the top was pretty wild and I didn’t realize it was so steep. When we arrived to the top, I had to beg Megan to take a picture with me :D, and snapped a few pics. We went to visit various exhibits and learn about the different things that the Getty offered. All in all, it was such a great experience. In another part of the exhibit, we had a wonderful view of the infamous traffic on the 405.
As always, a very typical day in Los Angeles, I don’t blame my colleagues at all for taking all the side roads in LA. I would too If I had to deal with that every day. We spent several hours at the Getty and made plans to come back to visit, as we didn’t have a lot of time to explore as much as we would’ve liked to.
Before leaving, we spent some time admiring the smoggy view over Los Angeles near Santa Monica Blvd. It was great to spend time with Megan and even though we were both exhausted, we had a really great morning thus far. Once we were done with exploring the Getty, we went back to the hotel to relax and catch a nap before bigger events for the evening.
Concert Time#
After relaxing for a little bit and catching some shade, we decided to head to the Intuit Dome in Inglewood.
The setup for this venue was horrible to say the least, but once we were there, that feeling dissipated. We parked in the west garage and walked across the pedestrian bridge to the open waiting area in front of the Intuit Dome.
It was a pretty neat place, although a little over kill with all the Cisco AP’s around the complex, there must have been at least 200+ access points just in the area between the parking garage and waiting area. As we walked down the stairs of the pedestrian bridge, we were greeted by the Twenty One Pilots merch trailer. We picked up a few T-shirts and a hat, spent a nice chunk of change and made our way to the queue.
We met so many cool fans. Many of them made custom bracelets, hoodies, beanies, and other sorts of custom made merchandise that they handed out to fans for free, Waiting in line was such a cool experience and getting to hear other peoples stories about how they came to know the band.
Once inside, I saw the giant video walls in the Intuit Dome, Twenty One Pilots sold out for both days, how cool is that? Once inside, we finally got use the bathroom after waiting so long in line LOL. This was a cashless arena and walking in and out using face scanning to purchase food was definitely a little weird but also kind of cool. We eventually made it to our seats and Megan and I snapped a pic.
I am for sure very tired in this photo, it had been such a long day and we had been up since 6 am. The concert didn’t start for another two hours at the time of this photo. After some 10 dollar red bulls, mediocre pizza and hot dogs and the opening band, we finally made it to the best part.
By far the coolest opening of a concert I have seen in quite awhile. Twenty One Pilots started the concert with Overcompensate and played a lot of songs off their older albums. I don’t know that I could stayed awake without my Red Bull though.
After having some Red Bull though, I was good to go for the rest of the concert. Getting to see Tyler and Josh was a long time dream.
Seeing Tyler play the piano was so cool and seeing everyone pile around him was a cool experience. I watched so many virtual concerts but nothing beats seeing it in person.
All the pyrotechnics and visuals of the concert were phenomenal. I jumped many times hearing the fire cannons go off and then seeing the fireworks was super cool in the stadium. I’m pretty sure Tyler and Josh keep the fog juice vendors in business.
Closer to winding down the set list, Tyler brought up the newest generation of Twenty One Pilots fans to sing on stage with him. It was such a wholesome moment and I’m pretty sure Tyler was crying here. It’s really cool that Tyler does this with his fans.
Winding down the night, they ended the set with Trees and the final visuals and confetti cannons. I am so happy I got to go after many setbacks throughout the years. It was such a huge bucket list item and glad I got to share this experience with Megan. Definitely the highlight of my year so far.
